Local Associations are required to register all team staff, including coaches, managers and trainers, with RAS. There is a minimum team staff requirement of one coach and the maximum team staff size is five: any combination that must include a minimum of one coach, with a maximum of one manager and one trainer, if desired.
The use of unregistered team staff is prohibited in league, exhibition or tournament play. This includes the use of Bench Moms. Teams that wish to rotate parents through their team staff will be required to register as many as five team staff and rotate as they see fit. This requirement is part of Ringette Saskatchewan's risk management policy.
As the Ringette Canada team registration form no longer exists, anyone requiring confirmation of a teams registration with RAS will be directed to the RAS website. Approved team rosters will be posted by November 15th of the current playing season. Information posted will include:
Team name and colors
Athletes first and last name
Athletes jersey number(s)
Registered Team Staff, first and last names
Registered Team Staff training or certification
Team staff not adhering to the training or certification requirements and deadlines, as outlined in the Coaching Certifications Requirements section below LINK HERE will be removed from their respective team roster and will become inelgibile to participate for the remainder of the season.
The Coaching Association of Canada is revamping its National Coaching Certification
Program (NCCP) and the transition is underway! The NCCP is changing its delivery
method from primarily lecture-based to more of a problem-solving approach. Coaches
who need training will have opportunities to acquire or refine the skills, knowledge and
attitudes deemed important to coach effectively in a particular context. Three streams
are being developed to educate and evaluate coaches: Community, Competition and
Instruction. Coaches who want to be certified will be required to demonstrate their
ability to achieve the requirements identified for their coaching context in areas such as
program design, practice planning performance analysis, program management,
ethical coaching support to participants during training and support to participants in competition.
For further information on certfication under the new program or certification expiry under the old system, please see Coaching Certification Requirements.
It is essential that athletes have access to qualified coaches throughout the athlete development pathway. The new Competency-Based Education and Training (CBET) approach to the National Coaching Certification Program will help to ensure that all coaches are better able to facilitate the development and preparation of athletes, consistent with the principles of long-term athlete development. Unlike the old program that was hierarchical (Level 1, 2, 3) CBET training and certification ensures that coaches obtain knowledge and develop skills applicable to the age and caliber of athletes he/she is working with. A Bunny Coach needs a different skill set than someone coaching Junior AA. Neither should be considered better than the other, instead, they should both be competent in their particular context.
Coaching requirements:
All individuals appearing on a team roster as a "coach" must have completed coaching training/certification (as per the outline below) by the January 31st deadline. Failure to comply will result in the offending person being removed from their team roster and consequently, will not allow this individual to participate in league, tournament or exhibition play for the remainder of the season. Approved team rosters will be posted on the RAS website.
